In 1989, Chris and Mary Eaton went on a date in the Normaltown neighborhood of Athens, Georgia. They fell in love. With books, Athens, and each other.
After a career spent in the bookselling business, Chris and Mary decided to create a space where Athenians could enjoy both independent-bookstore coziness and (ahem)-azon low prices.
Chris and Mary renovated the old Clarke Paint & Supply/Benjamin Moore by hand. Old and new friends pitched in, including new team members Shannon Dominy (above) and Hannah Echols.
Today, Normal Books is an Athens haven for all ages with over 5,000 books for sale. Their unique overstock and wholesale suppliers means readers can enjoy anything in store at about half the usual price. Calendars, stocking stuffers, and Mary’s original folk art fill the walls. Come with a little one for storytime, or bring some girlfriends and a bottle of wine.
